Sengkidu is a small coastal village in Manggis, Karangasem, on Bali’s east coast, close to Candidasa. It feels more like a lived-in Balinese village than a busy resort strip: there are local homes and temples alongside a modest number of places to stay and eat.
The coast has small beach areas rather than one long, broad sweep of sand. Fishing and food are part of the village’s character—Sengkidu is noted for traditionally prepared fish satay and pepes ikan, fish wrapped and cooked in banana leaf. Village religious life remains visible too, including the annual Aci Usaba Sambah ceremony.
For a visitor, Sengkidu is a quieter base near Candidasa, with access to its restaurants and accommodation and to nearby Tenganan village. If you’re imagining Bali’s big, expansive beaches, it’s better to think of Sengkidu as a peaceful coastal village with pockets of shoreline.
